Scott Westerfeld

Now this is a really, really great concept. In this world, there is a special "13th" hour if you will that is crammed in between 11:59 pm and midnight. During this secret hour, the entire world is asleep except for a select group of teens, who during normal hours are viewed as outcasts. They all even have cool special powers.
So far, so good right? Should be interesting read. But then, it falls into typical YA drama when a new girl at school that is completely popular and fits in, even though she thinks she's an outsider, gets to town. She too, of course, turns out to be a "midnighter" and the two midnighter guys we get to meet instantly fall for her, which causes of the female best friends to hate her instantly and the other to want to be her bff.
The story moves far too slowly to capture any real attention and the new girl is a complete sue who is too good to be true.
So an A for concept, but D for follow through. If you're looking for a good Scott Westerfeld book, definitely check out his Uglies series.
