*THIS IS A BOOK TWO! WHICH MEANS THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FOR BOOK 1 IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT YET*
Picking up after Tally's decision at the end of Uglies, the story starts off with a pretty Tally and a pretty Shay getting ready for a Pretties party. Here, Tally, who seems like a completely different person, meets a fellow pretty, Zane (WHOM I LOVE). He shows an interest for her and we soon learn that he suspects that there is something wrong with him, and the rest of the pretties. He urges Tally to try and remember things from her past as an Ugly, but it isn't until one of the rebels that had escaped the operation comes back, that Tally starts to realize that Zane was right.
*POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW*
She and Zane follow a series of clues left by the rebels that finally leads them to a letter written by Tally to herself convincing her of the truth behind the Pretty Operation. They also find 2 pills, the antidote. She and Zane decide to each take one, both too afraid of the repercussions. This sets off a chain of reactions throughout the Pretty (and even Ugly) towns that leads to Special Circumstances intervening again. It also marks the second splintering between Tally and Shay.
Loved this one more than Uglies. To me, this book is the heart and soul of the trilogy. The last book of the trilogy is
Specials.
